In a slightly geeky way I love getting the train to uni so it’s hard to decide on my truly best experience as a commuter.
There was a moment last year that did very much put my faith back in humanity however; I was getting the train into Uni and I wasn’t feeling that well and because the train was packed I had to stand up, next to the stinky toilets, I was praying that the train would hurry up and get into Coventry but it was too late, minutes from the station I knew I was going to faint and there was nothing I could do about it. Embarrassingly I grabbed onto the nearest person to me, a young woman in her twenties and nearly bought her down with me. Next thing I knew I was outside Coventry station sat on a bench and holding a banana wondering if I had hit my head, I couldn’t stop apologising enough but this woman as I remember clearly to this day was so kind and she stayed with me patiently until the station stopped spinning. Then despite my best efforts she proceeded to walk me up to my uni, knowing that she was going to be late for work. We joked about me sending her deed into the good deed feed in the metro and I actually did get it published. I hope she saw it, or this.
My worst experience as a commuter, wow I sound so accident prone, was walking into a lamppost after getting off the train and breaking my thumb. In a way it did sort of serve me right for not looking where I was going as I was doing the annoying ‘youth of today’ thing of keeping my eyes glued to my phone rather than my impending obstacle in front of me. Straight after, before the pain hit that is, I burst out laughing at my own stupidity but besides me was a grumpy businessman who even after seeing my pain decided that tutting at me was a reasonable response. I was silly but it seemed like a slightly strange reaction that really didn’t help, I wasn’t remotely close to walking into him. Needless to say I learnt my lesson and haven’t walked into any more lampposts whilst texting since *Touchwood*.
